Passed SAA co1

Hi everyone,

I took the SAA exam a few days back and passed with a score of 913. I want to thank all of you for sharing your hurdles, experience, and getting me through this journey so I want to share my experience with my fellow aspirants who are planning to take SAA.

I have a fair amount of aws experience along with network administration from my previous workplace. I was working at a co-op(intern) position which definitely help me understand the cloud environment and the importance of certifications in the industry. so, after my co-op term ended, I started preparing for SAA, it took about a month, dedicating anywhere from 1 to 8 hours a day (an average of around 4 hours, I would say). I started with Stephane's course watched all the videos in 4-5 days, took 2/6 of jons bonso practice test scored 76, 72 I barely passed I knew I wasn’t able to retain all of Stephane content since I played them super fast, so this time I watched and followed his hands-on which took about a week more to complete, but this time I was pretty confident and took all the other tests from jons course and scored 82,79,86,90. I wanted to schedule the test but was hesitant so took neal's course since I was able to memorize all the answers from jons course there was no point in retaking those tests. I did all of neals practice tests with scores around 75-85. I went through all the tests, reviewed my mistakes watched some YouTube videos and whitepapers on topics I felt I was weak and re-toke neals and jons tests scored around 90-95 in all, was pretty confident by now, scheduled the test for the next day and whoaalaaa PASSS

The actual test was pretty easy compared to the practice tests they are a very good way to test ourselves, I feel the best way to succeed is to test ourselves with multiple new practice test since there are a lot of em available online.

Test Observations

· Lots and lots of questions regarding load balancers

· Awful lot of questions(atleast 5) about DynamoDB math and selection which was super weird, like for a while I felt like I was sitting for the dev test I was lucky that I went through some YouTube videos before

· Aurora reader/writer endpoints

· Redshift cross region snapshot for DR

· Usual RDS MultiAZ questions

· Lots of various ec2 combinations

· VPC security questions, like default NACLs, security group questions

· 3-5 from SQS, SNS, Cognito

· Usual lambda questions (remember the max 15 mins execution time)

· Cloudtrail vs S3 access logs

· Selection criteria for various storage tiers form S3, EFS, EBS

· Didn’t get many encryption questions like other here

· Selection between beanstalk and cloudformation

Everyone on Reddit knows that stephanes with jons course is the best combo but I would like to add neals course to the package. Finally if students are able to score above 80% in all the tests I would say they are ready for the test no need to overprepare.

A special thanks for jon, neal and stephane for putting so much time and effort in making such materials for us students. I am also thankful for all the guidance and resources I received here on the Reddit, couldn't have done without you guys.

1/ FREE video course from my friend Andrew Brown.
Andrew is a great teacher and knows AWS inside-out!

2/ Udemy course from Stéphane Maarek.
Stephane knows how to condense all the knowledge you need into a fantastic course. You cannot go wrong with this one as well!

3/ SAA02 course by Adrian Cantrill.
I haven't used this course for my prep but have bought the DVA course and I must say: Adrian's courses are top-notch and his hands-on demos are world-class! If you want to dive deep into AWS, this is your course!

4/ SAA02 course by Neal Davis.
I've watched some of Neal's material and it's really great. Another very good choice if you want to sit the exam!

5/ Practice exams from Jon Bonso.
I'm honest with you. If it weren't for these fantastic tests I wouldn't have scored this high! Top-notch, best-in-class. Worth every penny!

6/ Practice exams from Stéphane Maarek.
I've tried half of these. They seem to be quite good, however, I prefer Tutorialsdojo practice exams because the questions are easier to understand and quite similar to the real exam. https://www.udemy.com/course/practice-exams-aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate/
7/ Practice exams from Neal Davis.
I've only tried 1-2 of them but they seem to be more difficult than the real exam. Might be good training but I decided I would be fine without taking all of them.

8/ Reddit Community AWS Certifications
Great community that shares tips and insights. Very friendly people that try to help each other!

9/ Exam Topics
So I am not 100% sure about the correctness of these example questions but some seem to be spot-on. Take this with caution because some solutions might be wrong!

10/ AWS Whitepapers
AWS recommends going through these for the exam. However, I only had a quick glance at them and scored well anyway. But, if you are serious about AWS you should definitely read them.

11/ Tutorialsdojo Cheat Sheets
Okay, these cheatsheets are one of a kind! All the info you need in a handy format. I've used these extensively and it was very much worth it!
