Just finished: Software II – Advanced C# – C969

Just finished this course and I have learned so much! For starters, I studied the project and then started it using the knowledge from Software 1. I built the GUI and then used a youtube tutorial on ADO.Net:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=aoFDyt8oG0k&list=PL6n9fhu94yhX5dzHunAI2t4kE0kOuv4D7&index=1

This instructor is great and his other video's on C# are very helpful. During the course, I booked plenty of appointments with Tom because I love to ask questions, especially to experienced developers. Finally, stackoverflow.com filled in the other gaps in knowledge. I didn't use entity framework because it seemed full of bugs when I was trying to get it working on VS 2017 and 2019, so I used the ADO.Net ExecuteNonquery, executescalar, etc. My advice to all is to take advantage of our CMs because it is great to have access to experienced developers when you need them. Ask plenty of "Why" and "What if" questions and be grateful for the explanations because if you do this on Stackoverflow.com you will get your head chewed off, spit out and points deducted from your cred points. LOL

Also, I am not the type that likes to read examples and explanations, because I like to see them in action in different variations. It's no secret that the learning resource is lacking with C#, so I purchased a Udemy course for $9.99 %95 off regular price (lol) and it is golden especially for the beginners. I wish that I had this resource in the Software 1 class. Check it out here: https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/

I'll swear by Denis Panjuta's Complete C# Masterclass on Udemy. He seems to have a good sense when topics need deep detail and he updates this course pretty often based on comments. He has a youtube channel as well. If you haven't done Udemy before, watch the sales. A class will be $150 one week and $10 the next.

re: Denis Panjuta's Udemy course + a bit of advice?

Hello,

There's a bunch of courses on Udemy but this one seems to be the only somewhat complete course, and it's on sale this week. I was wondering if you'd recommend this as a starting point for someone who's also got a bit of experience with Java and PHP? I saw some other courses too but when someone breaks up a tutorial in 3 pieces, each just a few hours long, and then tries to sell them each at a full price feels like a bit of a rip off. I am also not that interested in Unity at this moment.

My endgoal would be to maybe contribute to the cncnet project, but I realize that's going to take a while. Coding and making useful sideprojects for a hobby is what I'm aiming for atm. I'd also like to delve into Monogame and ASP at some point. I also love that .NET Core is going cross-platform.

Ps Any other (preferably text) sources you'd recommend to use alongside this course?

Unless you have a requirement to use visual basic, I suggest you use C# instead. The skills you develop will be much more marketable. There are lots of YouTube videos on learning to program. If you prefer something that looks more like an online class, you can purchase a course on Udemy for $12 that will teach you everything you need to know to get started. If the price is very high right now, just wait a little bit because they have sales all the time. https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/

This course looks alright: https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/

For books, I don’t have a specific one to recommend. But I can recommend your best friend when comes to learn more: Google. You want to learn about Interfaces? Google C# Interfaces. Classes and structs? Google it. You will learn a lot. Also any questions, ask here or StackOverflow. If you really want a book, I cannot remember from the top of my head right now but if I do I’ll put it here.

There are some questions to answer before i could give you a recommendation.

Do you know any other programming languages? Because if you know any, you should probably try to use the documentation. If not take any course, it doesn’t matter if its from 5 years ago or from yesterday, because the fundamentals are the same.

Do you want to learn only the language or also some frameworks, like entity framework or WPF? Because if you want to learn only the language, it really doesn’t matter which course, because even the worst course should help you to learn the fundamentals.... If not try to look for some particular courses which covers the topic you want!

Personally, i prefer to learn new languages with little projects and documentation.

But Framework like react or Blazor are more complex, so in that case i tend to buy a course on Udemy or somewhere else.

If you want a course, this one is relatively good.

start with learning c#. plenty of udemy.com course that go around $10. Such as this one https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/.

once you get a good understanding on object oriented programming. sign up for the simpl#pro course with crestron

if you really apply yourseld(1 to 2 hours daily) you would be simpl# pro certified in 1 year.

Yes practice would help , but sometimes practitioners miss the basics which gonna make them feel clumsy , However you don't have to know every feature in csharp .

https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/
If you wait the sale ,then you can purchase it for as low as 9.99$.

I completed this course 2 years ago , and it keeps adding new lectures ,though you can skip basics and start from OOP section ,to inheritance to polymorphism .

Even though the course is 37 hours (28 hours if you do not count unity) it is missing some stuff you may need it Like:

** ASP dot NET (Main web framework for csharp) .

** Entity Framework.

** async ,await keywords ( even though it the course has threading ).

** Exceptions handling .

To answer your question :

Yes , but you have to keep practicing what you learn ,upgrading your skills .

About the career opportunities, I get that it's about experience, but I see many big companies these days like Epic Games, Ubisoft, etc, that hire C++ programmers for their games, it doesn't seem like there are many big companies that use C# for their games these days, I guess I'll take your advice and learn C# first, I only wish it could be used in Unreal Engine as It's much easier for me to do things in Unreal Engine for some reason, it just feels right, do you have any course or method for me to try learning C# as my first programming language? I've been thinking about buying this online course "https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-csharp-masterclass/" but I'm not sure if it's for beginners.

This one. Its going for 12 dollars for the next 4 days.

In the beginning it teaches c# fundimentals, then to make desktop apps and then you learn to make 3 games in unity. You can browse through the "Course content" section to see what topic youll learn

If you are interested here's a full CRUD project on C# and MS SQL Server wich is the Database that is more used with C# and .NET

BILLING SYSTEM in C# and MS SQL SERVER

It's a very common application of what a C# developer starts doing as intermediate and you can finish it within 1 or 2 days. I recommend you look an O'Reilly and Appress books about WPF and WCF, there are a lot and very well written.

Finally i cand recommend you go full on Youtube tutorials for C# and .NET development, there's a lot of material. But if you are not satisfied then you can always look for Pluraslight C# learning path or udemy Complete C# Masterclass as those are the only ones i can recommend by my experience.

PS: If you are interested in some game development experience then go to Brackey Youtube channel. Game development involves many mathematics, algorithms, dessign patterns, etc.

Good luck on you job, blessings.
