I was born in the Philippines (more traditional British English as far as written) and speak with a near-native equivalent of “Western” American English. I have a good friend who is from Yorkshire, and his accent is befuddling. Depending on how much exposure you have in English, I recommend sticking to RP because the northern U.K. accents are MANY and variegated.
The change is subtle and sometimes can occur in close proximity with other town/city/whatever. (Merseyside comes to mind in particular.) If you’re looking for consistency, I recommend sticking to RP. GOOD LUCK!
