I used this course on Udemy as prep for my college course in IT starting August. It was easy to understand and I really enjoyed it. Also if you don't get something the 'teacher' is always fast to respond to your question ^^

Java for Absolute Beginners

I had little to no coding experience and was able to train and teach myself through various resources within 3 - 4 months. I compiled all the resources I used into a list which you can view below. Good luck!

PD1 Study Material

  1. OOP Fundamentals
  2. If you have little to no coding experience, I highly recommend completing this Udemy course. It’ll teach you the fundamentals of Object Oriented Programming (OOP) in Java. Apex, which is the main coding language that drives Salesforce’s platform, is very similar to Java so transitioning over will be very easy. It’ll make learning about Apex and it’s concepts a lot faster. It’ll also help you start thinking like a programmer through its practice assignments.

  4. FocusonForce - PD1 Study Guide and Exams

  5. I assume you’ve heard of this website before due to its popularity. It does a great job of going over the key points one should pay attention to in each section. They also provide many great practice exams.
  6. In terms of how I studied their notes, I wrote them all down and thought about the concepts while I wrote them. Afterwards, I thought about how I would apply them in a given situation. If you are just reviewing or writing down their notes without actively engaging yourself and thinking, then you won’t get much out of them.

  9. Lecture over Reading - There will be days where you may not want to read and may prefer to watch a video of these concepts in actual use. Thankfully, I found an awesome Dev Playlist that does just that from a team called Apex Hours.

  10. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaGX-30v1lh1e8roeCUumUEel5ukdPubj

  11. If possible, I suggest watching as many of these vids as you can. You can skip the vids regarding Asynchronous Apex, Integration and API use since those are mostly for PD II (Highly recommend watching though if interested!). If you prefer to not watch any of the vids, then at least do the practice assignments at the end of each of them. You can find the assignments near the end of the YouTube vids or on their website which can be found below. Practice is key for conceptual understanding and mesmerization!!!:

  13. Once you’ve finished FocusonForce, do the following Trailhead modules

  14. Apex Specialist - You’ll feel like an Apex Master after completing this! : Salesforce.com › trailhead › learnWeb resultsApex Specialist | Salesforce Trailhead

  15. VisualForce Basics (Take Notes!) : Salesforce.com › trailhead › modulesWeb resultsVisualforce Basics | Salesforce Trailhead

  16. Aura Component Basics

  17. (Before doing this, I suggest watching the Aura component videos from the YouTube Playlist. They give a good overview of what an Aura component is and how it works. This Trailhead just goes into more details - TAKE NOTES!) :

  19. Lightning Web Components

  20. (Before doing this, I suggest watching the LWC component videos from the YouTube Playlist. They give a good overview of what an LWC component is and how it works. This Trailhead just goes into more detail about what is it you actually saw - TAKE NOTES!):

Final Thoughts: - I mentioned it before but I’ll say it again: Practice is key for conceptual understanding and mesmerization!!! I honestly would not have passed if I didn’t practice any of the concepts. Be creative and create your own simple business requirements. Experiment and you’ll learn! You can also ask me for some examples or assignments to do. Another great practice resource is:

https://developer.salesforce.com/forums#!/feedtype=RECENT&criteria=ALLQUESTIONS&

  • In the “Apex Code Development” tab, People from various businesses posts all types of issues that they are having or would like code for and ask for help. I’ve helped many people on here which increased my overall exposure and network. The more practice, the merrier!

  • Know your use cases, when to use Apex vs Declarative Tools and the limitations of each - There will be many many questions regarding this on the exam

  • Mesmerize Order of Execution - I believe there is always at least once question on the exam regarding this

  • Know when to use Look-Up, Master-Detail, Indirect, External Relationships based on a given scenario and their implications (For example, in a master detail relationship between a custom object and a standard object, the standard object always has to be the parent. Also User and Lead objects can never be the parent within this type of relationship.)

  • Use me as a resource: Feel free to ask me any questions that you may have throughout your studies. I will be more than happy to assist. I actually like when others ask me questions because it helps make the knowledge I’ve gained stay fresh in my mind. In certain instances, I am also open to video chatting about various concepts and providing examples. Overall, I am here for you!

  • Good Luck and Never give up!!!
