Fantastic instructions, thank you so much for this u/Mar_Koo_Sha :) I've definitely been doing shorter transitions as I learned to mix off of this online course (which I personally think was fantastic at introducing me to DJing) which focuses more on progressive house/future bass style of mixing but also I get a little ADD and want to do something at the decks.
I definitely appreciate you illustrating "vinyl-way" of doing things as I don't want to be overly dependent on the modern digital assistance that a lot of the software has these days. I'm currently on a DDJ-SR2 but when I get better will move to something like closer to the XDJ-RX2 so that I just need USBs (I've had my laptop crash on me while mixing at home!)

Hey I just came across this thread, if you're still after a DJ course and don't want to spend the $200AUD on the Club Ready course I have a great alternative. I just finished the Udemy course by Ross Palmer and I've gone from zero knowledge to about to play at a house party in about 4 months (with a *lot* of practice). The course is advertised at like $200USD but there's always a "special deal" where they reduce it to like $10. In my opinion some of the best money I've ever spent, the guy is really nice and goes through all of the beginner level stuff through to more advanced levels.
I don't have a financial interest in the course, I was just so happy with it that I'd like to pass it on :) https://www.udemy.com/course/online-dj-course/
Everyone on here is so anti-lessons but I think I'd be completely lost if I just tried to find stuff on YouTube! Out of interest, did you end up getting the Club Ready course? I was thinking of getting it for the advanced stuff and wondering if it's worth it!

I got this one and honestly it was a blessing: https://www.udemy.com/course/online-dj-course/. Ross is really good at explaining, he got me started in a week or less. Recommended!

Learn to beatmatch by ear. Sure it sounds silly to even recommend it, but you'd be surprised how the beat detection can be wrong on a lot of songs, especially older 80's 90's house/club tracks. This makes mixing difficult or impossible if you can't beatmatch by ear.
Beats bars and phrases. Learn what that means and life will be much easier.

A lot of people recommend this guy, and right now it's $17 for the entire course.
The sound in these videos is awful, but the lessons are great.
