Over 6 years in sales here, currently making the switch and joining a small SF Consulting Partner in the next few weeks.

Since u/doublediamondz answered your questions better than I can, here are some of my personal tips:
- Don't downplay your experience as an end-user! Lean into it, it's one of the main reasons I was hired.
- Commit as many hours per week (7+) to Trailhead and after a while, try building your own project or attempt a Superbadge.
- I used Mike Wheeler's Udemy practice tests often on sale for $10-12 and passed my first time (barely).
- Find your local SF group and network!
- When applying, don't limit yourself to just SF Admin job postings, consider joining a local SF Consulting firm like I am!
- Don't let the doubt creep in. No matter how long it takes, if you commit to it, you can do it!
Took me 16-months after certification to land an offer.
