I'd suggest you invest in this Udemy course (I have no association with them) : https://www.udemy.com/course/sql-for-newbs/ . . Also consider picking up some probono projects with NGOs or small businesses. Keep those in your portfolio. And finally, identify companies that are actively hiring for these roles and directly reach out the CTO or CEO via LinkedIn.

Just to add to what others have said, Power BI jobs will pay more and give you better experience that could translate into being able to work with other tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker) more easily, whereas SSRS only has a couple serious competitors but the concepts in those competitors are much more different. And it seems like there are way more BI jobs out there than standard reporting jobs.

There will be a lot of confusing data concepts if you jump straight into Power BI so I would start with something like these:
